Gilbert Spence, a worker with Vecellio & Grogan Incorporated, climbs into an excavator equipped with a giant jackhammer used to break up large chunks of rock Monday afternoon during cleanup at the site of the this weekend's massive rock slide between Sundial and Pettry Bottom. Vecellio & Grogan has been contracted by the Division of Highways to clear the slide, and workers on the scene had broken up and removed most of the largest portions of the blockage as of Monday. Crews are hopeful that the way is passable for heavy equipment by today, however they stress that a significant amount of work above the slide is still needed before Coal River Road (Route 3) can completely re-open.
