Beckley residents Indiya Lawson (near), 11, and Daylen Thomas, 6, watch bluegill methodically avoid their hooks as they fish from a dock during the 23rd Annual Kids Fishing Derby Saturday morning at Little Beaver State Park. Looking down from here you could the fish through the water, seemingly experienced at avoiding capture, picking away at their bait but never taking the hook, which early on made for a slightly frustrating first fishing experience for young Daylen.
