Volunteer and Independence High student Evan Cook examines a piece of debris as he pulls weeds at Theatre West Virginia's Cliffside Amphitheatre Sunday afternoon at Grandview State Park. Cook, who took a theatre class at Indy and aspires to one day become a voice actor and animator, was helping out with the preseason cleanup and by 1:00 p.m. he'd found a plastic, heart-shaped American flag ring, a button to a pair of pants, discarded pantyhose with some other unknown debris inside and he'd stepped on a huge piece of gum, which he described as "minty smelling."
