Rocket Boy Roy Lee Cooke describes the famous field where the gang launched their rockets during a trip his native Coalwood Sunday afternoon. The launchpad and blast shelter would have been situated behind him, facing in the direction of where Cooke is pointing. The shelters at left weren't present in 1957 when the boys began launching, and a railroad that's no longer present ran along a creek hidden in the woods to the left of Cooke that they would sometimes use to walk into the remote area.
