(Brad Davis/The Register-Herald) Woodrow Wilson band director Bill Bailey looks over a special plaque handed to him by Mary Sue Bailey, band director at Independence Middle School, as he's honored for over 45 years of teaching music during the intermission of Saturday's Southern West Virginia Honor Band performance, where he composed the Gold Band's performance. Bailey, president of the Raleigh County Bandmasters Association, is retiring later this year so Mary Sue Bailey and Liberty High School band director Jeremy Rodriguez presented him with a special plaque with a Hans Christian Andersen quote which reads "When words fail, music speaks."
