(Brad Davis/The Register-Herald) Volunteer Alexis Franklin, right, plays the role of a frieghtened and badly injured worker high atop a cell phone tower as trainees from Team WV Wild Med are tasked with reaching, treating and rescuing her during a high intensity, scenario-based simulation that was part of the annual Battle in the Gorge E.M.S. and Fire Competition Sunday morning on the grounds of Fayette County 911. Participating teams compete and train in scenarios that test both individual and combined rescue disciplines such as vertical rescue, paramedic, basic EMT and vehicle extrication. Teams don't know what scenario they will be thrown into until they arrive on the scene.
