Read More(Brad Davis/The Register-Herald) Tom Fledderus, veteran firefighter from the Wheeling F.D., plays the role of a heart attack victim in trouble high atop a cell phone tower as trainees from Team WV Wild Med are tasked with working together to reach, stabilize, secure and get him down before the patient dies during a high intensity simulation that was part of the annual Battle in the Gorge E.M.S. and Fire Competition Sunday morning on the grounds of Fayette County 911. Team Wild Med is comprised of medical students currently in residency at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg. Participating teams compete and train in scenarios that test both individual and combined rescue disciplines such as vertical rescue, paramedic, basic EMT and vehicle extrication. Teams don't know what scenario they will be thrown into until they arrive on the scene.
