Volunteers, from left, Franklin Hammons, Mason Huffman, and Vivienne Huffman dig up dirt at the site of an archaeology study near the Greenbrier River Trail in Lewisburg Monday. The two-week study was commissioned by the board of Greenbrier River Trail Association and is being let by professional archaeologists brothers Stephen and David McBride. So far they have been mostly finding flakes, the debris from making tools and projectile points dating to the early archaic period about 8,000 years ago. Those artifacts, and any further artifacts will be analyzed for a report before plans for a new trailhead parking and picnic area at the site can move forward. (Jenny Harnish/The Register-Herald)
