Therapy Dog

First Lady Cathy Justice visits with Hinton Area Elementary School students to introduce Marshal, a male Labradoodle therapy dog in Hinton Friday. Marshal is the tenth therapy dog to be placed as part of her Friends With Paws initiative for Communities In Schools. The therapy dogs will be placed in schools within CIS counties where students are disproportionately affected by poverty, substance misuse, or other at-risk situations, and are in the greatest need of a support animal. School Counselor Sonya Murrell said they will be using the dog in many areas including a reading initiative, a positive incentive for absenteeism and for kids with emotional issues.
